Understanding diets

These days it feels like around every corner there is a new diet, each claiming to be newer, better and more improved than any other diet that previously existed. Something we should all realize is that not every diet will work for you. Choosing a diet is more complicated than we might think. There are multiple criteria one has to look at before choosing the right diet.

Firstly, you have to find out what your blood type is. Personally I don’t believe in only following the “Diet that is right for your blood type”, but it is however a great guideline. There are 4 blood types, O, A, B and AB.

Type O is the oldest blood type. Type O individuals can consumer larger amounts of meat than any other blood type but should avoid grains, beans, bread, pasta and dairy.

Type A blood should follow an organic diet high in fruit and vegetables. Food to avoid includes red meat, processed meat, fatty foods and food high in sugar.

Type B blood can regularly consume green vegetables, eggs, certain types of easily digestible meats and low-fat dairy products. Food to avoid include chicken, corn, wheat, buckwheat, lentils, tomatoes, peanuts, and sesame seeds.

Type AB blood should avoid caffeine, alcohol and cured/ smoked meat, due to the tendency of low stomach acids in type AB blood individuals. Food to focus on include tofu, seafood, dairy and green vegetables.

By using the “Diet that is right for your blood type” as a guideline, the rest gets real easy. Listening to your body is very important. Indigestion, gas or an uncomfortable feeling after consuming food is your body’s way of speaking to you. If you feel different after eating certain foods it is best to avoid them.

Something I personally believe is that you should never exclude anything completely from your diet. By excluding foods, you can end up getting allergic or having other negative reactions to food. The best thing is to limit the things you shouldn’t eat to once or twice a week. This will ensure that you not only feel better, but that you can enjoy a healthy normal lifestyle.

Remember, everything is better when done in moderation.
