Ozone Therapy and Bronchitis

As winter is drawing closer in South Africa, we definitely need to start preparing for the annual flu season.

Bronchitis is caused by the same virus that causes the common cold. As silly as it may be, one should seek medical attention as soon as you’ve developed a cold. Even if it’s just following your annual flu medicine routine. Should the common cold be left untreated, symptoms can worsen and you could end up developing bronchitis.

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchi (medium-size airways) in the lungs. Acute bronchitis is usually caused by viruses or bacteria and may last several days or weeks. Acute bronchitis is characterised by cough and sputum (phlegm) production and symptoms related to the obstruction of the airways by the inflamed airways and the phlegm, such as shortness of breath and wheezing. Diagnosis is by clinical examination and sometimes microbiological examination of the phlegm.

Chronic bronchitis is not necessarily caused by infection and is generally part of a syndrome called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); it is defined clinically as a persistent cough that produces sputum (phlegm) and mucus, for at least three months in two consecutive years.

Other causes of bronchitis include:

  • Pollution (smog)
  • Smoking
  • Second hand smoke
  • Household products can cause inflammation when inhaled
  • Grain dust
  • Ammonia
  • Chlorine
  • Certain types of acid.
  • Textiles (fabric fibers)

Ozone therapy can help fight the signs and symptoms of bronchitis. Ozone Therapy kills viruses and bacteria, it relieves fever and increases the white blood cells in the body to help fight infection. Ozone Therapy can also help fight allergies, headaches, diarrhoea and muscle acres & cramps.
